I am new to the Sainte-Anne Singers since fall 2008. I fell in love with the choir after hearing their 20th anniversary concert, and knew I had to audition!

I am a mezzo-soprano, and studied voice at McGill University with Jo-Anne Bentley. I love music of all genres — I have been singing with The Orpheus Singers under the direction of Peter Schubert since 1993, and I'm a lead soprano at St. Phillips Anglican church in Montreal West. I've also been known to hog the microphone on Karaoke nights!

By day I'm a Material / Production Planner for an aerospace company. My life is schedules and deadlines and my singing keeps me sane!

Martin has been singing since the age of 8, and since then has "tried out all the parts" in various choirs across Canada: treble, alto, descending to bass when his voice broke, earning a promotion to tenor a few years later, and countertenor in a renaissance choir, a 50's and 60's doo-wop group and a barbershop quartet. He has also accompanied and conducted choirs and currently plays the organ for a church in Dorval. He joined the Sainte-Anne Singers in 1998, on moving to Montreal.

"What I like about the Sainte-Anne Singers is the caliber of the singers, the wide variety of music we sing from many genres and the fact that we do most of it a cappella, which keeps us on our toes to produce good pitch, tone and blend," says Martin.

In "real life", Martin uses his Ph.D. in chemistry to work as a manager for a pulp and paper manufacturing company. Sometimes this means travel and missing choir practices, but his fellow travelers can find him muttering to himself on airplanes trying to memorize music through his headphones.

Martin is also an amateur composer, and Margo indulges him in having the choir sing some of his compositions, including "A Christmas Lullaby", "Take Five Merry Gentlemen" and "Bell Carol".

Many moons ago, I studied music (oboe and piano) at McGill University under Margaret Morse and Louis-Philippe Pelletier. Most members of my family are musical and we sing often at family gatherings.

In my everyday life, my small jam and jelly company keeps me very busy, as do my husband Philip and 22 year old son Max (a good singer and a music lover).

As long as Margo will have me, I will cherish every moment spent singing with the Sainte-Anne Singers.

Singing has always been a passion for Janet, starting at the age of 9, in a Christmas pageant, on stage in her nightie, singing 'Greensleeves' to a gym full of parents!

Janet has been with the Sainte-Anne Singers since 1995, singing many solos and participating in quartets.  She was the soprano soloist in all of our classical concerts with the Montreal Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Maestra Wanda Kaluzny.  Janet performs in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas with Lakeshore Light Opera, and is a soloist in the Cedar Park United Church choir, also singing for weddings and funerals.  Being a dedicated professional caregiver and mother of three girls keeps her hopping....not just on stage!

Hello, I’m Brenda and I’ve been married to my wonderful husband Geordie for 36 years. We are the proud parents of two children, Lisa, 29, and Chris, 27. In the past, I worked as a personal secretary and then as a gymnastics coach at Wimgym.

In my youth I studied piano and sang in school and gospel choirs. As an adult I sang with the award-winning barbershop chorus, the West Island Sweet Adelines, and in a quartet, Vocal Gentry, for ten years. I then sang with the pop/jazz choir Armonia and the quintet Kozmik for four years.

I have been with the Sainte-Anne Singers for 11 years as an alto. I enjoy the very organized rehearsals. I love the sound the choir produces and the way we keep growing as a group, always aiming to improve. The people in the choir are so warm and friendly that it feels like an extended family.

I hope to sing with the Sainte-Anne Singers to many more audiences for years to come.

I am a mezzo-soprano and I've been singing with the Sainte-Anne Singers for 8 years.

This is my second choir and I also sang in a quintet for a few years before joining this group.  I love my experience singing with SAS. I only started singing in my mid-thirties, so it is a challenge for me as I have no formal music training, just what I've learned from the great direction I've had.  My favorite thing is standing in mixed order hearing the pure vocal harmonies all around you.

There is no other feeling like it -- to be in that moment is awesome.
